About Liz – Children & Young People’s Counsellor in Derby
Hi, I’m Liz.
I specialise in supporting children, teenagers, and young people across Derby and the surrounding areas through life’s ups and downs.
I also work with adults who feel my approach is the right fit for them.
I offer a calm, confidential, and supportive space where you can talk openly about whatever’s on your mind — with no pressure and absolutely no judgement.
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply need someone to listen, I’m here to walk alongside you.
-
My counselling approach is person-centred, which means I believe you are the expert in your own life.
Rather than telling you what to do, I offer a safe and understanding environment where you can:
Explore your thoughts and feelings
Build confidence in who you are
Make sense of your experiences
Move forward at your own pace
This is your space, your time, and your journey — I’m here to support you every step of the way.
-
My main focus is working with:
Children
Teenagers
Young adults
I have a strong passion for supporting young people in Derby, Derbyshire, and nearby areas, creating a space where they feel safe, heard, and understood.
I also welcome adults who are looking for a gentle, person-centred approach and feel comfortable working with me.
-
I support clients across Derby and surrounding areas such as Burton-on-Trent, Long Eaton, Ilkeston, and Nottingham with a wide range of emotional and mental health challenges, including:
Anxiety and stress
Low mood or depression
Self-harm or intrusive thoughts
Relationship or family difficulties
Identity, gender, and sexuality
Low self-esteem and confidence
Life changes, grief, or trauma
Exam, school, or university pressures
No issue is too big or too small — if it matters to you, it matters here.
-
I work with all kinds of people and am especially passionate about creating a welcoming, affirming, and inclusive environment for those who may feel different or misunderstood.
This includes:
LGBTQ+ individuals
Neurodivergent clients (including ADHD, autism, and more)
Anyone who feels like they don’t quite “fit in”
You are accepted exactly as you are.
-
When you work with me, you can expect:
A calm, supportive, and confidential space
A non-judgemental and compassionate approach
Sessions tailored to your needs and pace
A genuine, human connection
There’s no pressure to have the “right words” — just come as you are.
-
Life can feel overwhelming at any stage, but especially during childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood.
Working with a local counsellor in Derby means you can access support that is nearby, accessible, and tailored to your community.
Counselling offers a space to pause, reflect, and better understand yourself.
It’s not about “fixing” you — it’s about helping you feel heard, understood, and empowered.
